Week 24

A small winter storm moved in late Saturday night and left us with some Utah powder and gave us a small break from the weeks long inversion. Despite the cold, the construction is still progressing! The Southwest corner is now three stories high.

I still am amazed at the amount of reinforcing steel in this building!

I hope to one day look out these windows from the inside!

Once dedicated, the Brigham City Utah Temple will be the Church's 139th operating temple worldwide, and the 14th in Utah. It will serve more than 40,000 members living in northern Utah and southeastern Idaho in 13 stakes.

Announced: October 3, 2009

Groundbreaking: July 31, 2010

Public open house: Aug. 18-Sept. 15, excluding Saturday, Sept. 8 and Sundays

Dedication: Sunday, Sept, 23, 2012

Location: 250 South Main Street, Brigham City, Utah 84302; across the street from the Brigham City Tabernacle

Property size: 3.1 acres

Building size: 36,000 square feet

Building height: Approximately 165 feet to the top of the Angel Moroni statue.

Angel Moroni statue: 12 feet tall

Exterior features:

· Temple made of pre-cast concrete

· Second floor round windows with art-glass peach blossoms

· Local stone from Weber Canyon used for walls around site

· Twenty-six fruit trees on site

Interior features:

· Wood trim, is hand-carved hard rock maple

· Stone floor tiles imported from Turkey

· Several pieces of original art work throughout the temple

· 12 cast bronze oxen in the baptistry; each different

Joseph Smith said this about members of the church, “We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul--We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things”.
