Up Close and Personal

All of the barricades are down and you can walk around the temple!  The wrought iron fence around the temple is closed, but the ugly green barriers are gone.  

Some neighbors kindly informed us of the barriers while they were on their evening walk tonight, and we just had to go down and see.  We have never been so close to temple!  I will try to get some more photos in the daylight.

Even though it was after 10 pm, there was a crowd of 20 or 30 walking around the temple.  If you can, you have to go and see it yourself!

 

 

Provo Tabernacle Temple

I spent the 4th of July in Provo with my in-laws and went to the parade and the Stadium of Fire, courtesy of my daughter, Martha who scored some free tickets through her work.

The parade seems to be declining every year, but I still enjoy it.  On the way to Utah Valley that morning, we could see the fire burning to the East of Alpine.  We also saw firefighting helicopters flying around on the 4th.

When I woke up on the 5th, I was surprised when my wife said that it was cloudy.  Then, it started raining and raining all morning and most of the afternoon.  We received some much needed rain, without the lightning that usually comes in the Summer.  It was truly a miracle!  All the prayers were answered by the Lord.  The rain, humidity and cooler temperatures definitely controlled the fires.

By 4 o'clock in the afternoon, there were again blue skies, so I drove down University Avenue to get a look at the temple be constructed from the former Provo Tabernacle.  Here are the photos I took.

The major work I observed, was, of course, the exterior bracing to keep the brick work from collapsing during the construction.  I suspect the architects and engineers have a real challenge on their hands fitting a temple into the existing walls.  All you folks in Provo can keeps tabs on it.  I'm sure it will be beautiful!

Entrance Doors

I drove by the temple at 4:00 am on the 4th of July, and the glass entrance doors were in!  I was taking my daughter to the SLC airport to catch a flight to Peru, where she is participating with a humanitarian group in the Amazon Jungle.  I will get some photos as soon as I can.

Week 101 Construction

A peaceful walk around the temple block this morning showed significant progress in finishing up the odds and ends around the temple.

The curb and gutter is complete on 3rd South and the street has been repaired.  You can see the new asphalt in this photo.

Only piles of mulch remain to be placed on the North side.

The petunias are colorful and bright along Main Street.

It's not real obvious what is different on the Tabernacle side.  The track hoe is gone and there is a large pile of demolished concrete, but I don't know where it came from.  I assume that the landscaping will be complete by the temple open house.  That is only 6 weeks away.  Maybe they are concentrating on the temple grounds and then will transition to working on the Tabernacle grounds when they are done with the temple grounds.

I think the green grass adds significantly to the beauty of the grounds!

Second South is all complete; nice new asphalt and new sidewalks.

Just a little more landscaping to be done along Main Street.

First West is spanking new, too!

The West entrances are better than ever before.  All the trailers and large trucks and machinery are gone.  It is really looking sparkly and nice.

Sidewalks all around the block are complete.
