Week 18 from the Air

Here are some photos of the temple lot after our first major winter storm this year. My dad clicked these as I was flying around. I wonder if construction progress will slow down with the cold weather?

Week 17

The Northwest and Southwest corners of the Temple are rising. They are shown here in the middle of a snowstorm.

My brother, who is a licensed architect, says that the structure must have been designed for a very heavy seismic area based on the amount of reinforcing steel in the corners of the building to resist the bending moments that would be induced by an earthquake.

Walls!!

I happened by the temple lot today and saw even more progress on the walls and I just couldn't wait for my normal time to take photos of the construction. They are really going to town!

The amount of steel in the walls is amazing. It looks like the amount of reinforcing that is used in nuclear power plant containment buildings - and I think that is a good thing. It will stand for a long time and be resistant to earthquakes.

You might not care about such things, but as a professional engineer, I find the construction details fascinating! In fact, I have even daydreamed about quitting my day job to see if they will hire me at Big D Construction at minimum wage, just so I can watch everything first hand!

Walls

Flash report! I just drove by the temple lot and I saw walls rising from the ground. The construction is progressing faster than I hoped!

Week 16

A lot more steel and concrete, two of my favorite engineering materials, are visible this week. I hope the work will continue at this pace during the coming cold months!
